Thread: SEO in the 90's

I know, but I wanted to say that it wasn't called black hat then.

I didn't get on the internet until 2004 to do internet marketing. So i can't speak for any time earlier than that. But from the first second i was online, i was doing SEO. At the time, i didn't know it was SEO though and submitted articles to directories and built backlinks, hoping for real traffic. At some point, i started reading how this was part of SEO and it made sense that my traffic was coming from search engines and not specifically from the links posted.

come on Google says do not go get backlinks that means DO NOT make posts,comments,or anything we all do that so even WhiteHat is unethical also lol

Basically, that's it. Google might say NO to it, but others might say YES.
Do you consider spamming as ethical?

lets define spamming?

is spamming posting 46 posts on same forum in 20 minutes or is it posting 1 forum profile or is it posting in one thread with a link or is it just emailing with out permision such as a NOT opt in list ?

What 1 person considers spam is not the same as another persons idea!

I personally see forum profile links as nice ,it adds a member to my site ( no other help but to add to total ..also NO harm !

I also do not mind the occasional post with a link dropped in the post
I do mind a member poster 5-10 post with a link or even same content

But those are my views

Heh, I know the feeling. Long time ago, I was writing some articles for somebody and he asked me to use some keywords. That was the first time I've made a contact with seo, even though I didn't knew.

I'm sure SEO must have existed at the time though I didn't know i was practicing it. Though until now, i just assumed the term SEO started after i got online. Now i realize that i came into understanding more about it and just discovered the practice that others were already using, if only by accident. lol!

I think yes there was but it's not famous yet by that time.
