I live in Lufkin Texas, which is about 120 miles north east of houston. As everyone knows, we were hit very hard by IKE. We lost all our food, had major property damage, and to make it worse, my husband was out of work for 4 days due to lack of power, and won't get paid for it.

President Bush declaired Angelina county, the county we live in, a disaster area, but there are thousands in our area that were denied government help.

I applied for assistance through FEMA about a week after the storm because that was when our power, phone and all that was finally restored.

When I heard from them, they said that the only thing we were eligable for was housing. By then we didn't need that cause our utilities had already been restored after 6 days. And even if they would have contacted us the day after the storm, it would't have done us any good because there wasn't a hotel room available within 200 miles of Lufkin.

We heard that the government was going to replace food items that were lost in freezers and refrigerators, so I called to check it out. They said that the only way to get reembursed for any food items was if we were on "Food Stamps" BEFORE the storm hit.

I was real upset, because we had gone thru the same thing as the one's that were already receiving government help. NOT FAIR and TOTALLY WRONG!!

I am NOT asking for a handout or anything like that, but I could really use your help.
