    Scalable resources up or down as you need them will be one of the most prominent benefits of the cloud. Cloud services also offer the benefit of 100% uptime. Cloud doesn't use stand alone VPS but includes them in a cluster so that if one fails another can pick up the load. You can also use Cloud to backup your resources although it is always advisable to keep a hard copy as well as multiple backup resources.

    Cloud is nothing more than a very sophisticated VPS. All the disks are tied back into redundant SAN arrays and your "server" is ran on any number of application blades. If that blade were to ever fail, your server reboots on a different application blade.

    Google OnApp and you'll see what a lot of hosts are using for Cloud Solutions for their clients.
