    They may diversify. Just that I don't think they'll be interested in SPAM either.

    Google seems very interested in providing a rich experience for the online user, whether they're interested in searching the web, finding photos, watching videos or connecting with friends, via google +.

    I would dare to say that Google will never have shift its big focus on SMO but definitely this is now part of their perspective. Considering that they are investing much time, money and prestige on their own social networking site, I would never wonder that Google is giving an important emphasis on this. However, Google being big enough for everything online, we should treat SMO as an important component but it is not the end-all and be-all.

    As you say, SMO is important but not all encompassing.
